Join Humble Heron Fly Fishing and Momentum River Expeditions for one of the country’s most unique fishing experiences. The Rogue River offers the mix of a world-class remote wilderness canyon, exciting whitewater, old western history, and autumn Steelhead fishing. There are options to fish from outfitted fly fishing rafts, and to wade on the lower sections of river, or fish from historic McKenzie style drift boats. We offer adventures that can be based from wilderness lodges or comfortable riverside camps. The Rogue River is an iconic American classic, one of the planet’s great wilderness trips, and one of the original eight rivers designated a National Wild and Scenic River System.
The Rogue begins around Crater Lake National Park in the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness. It flows southwest through the Cascades range and then reaches civilization near Grants Pass Oregon. Our trip begins just downstream as the river pierces into the remote Siskiyou Mountains where it transforms into a stunning wilderness playground that is home to the most diverse wildlife and aone of the most prolific fall run of salmon and steelhead in the Pacific Northwest. Famous for its sometimes narrow canyons of ancient and colorful rock, deep forests painted in ferns, tree laden hillsides, unique sandy beaches, flowing waterfalls, and hikes up intimate side streams. Besides the fish, It is common to see bald eagles, otters, mink, osprey, black tail deer, black bear and so much more.
These trips are custom fit to each guests and tend to be more interactive than many Rogue canyon fishing trips. With exceptional instruction from our guides, guests off all skill level will be certain to take home a wealth of knowledge about the region and the process of angling. Specializing in the art of swung fly presentations to curious and aggressive steelhead, our guides knowledge of single hand and two-handed rods will leave you inspired to improve your craft. Our guiding style is passionate, patient, and we have great knowledge base with the attention to detail, the art of the craft, and friendliness that both Humble Heron and Momentum are known for.
We run these unique canyon trips starting in August through mid-November. Our primary focus is targeting summer run Fall Chinook Salmon and the famous Rogue River steelhead. We are fortunate to have great diversity in our fish and have runs of the most rare fish in the world, the “half-pounder”. These “super charged trout” are sexually immature steelhead ranging from 14 to 24 inches. These fish run with our larger adult steelhead that can reach up to ten pounds and occasionally larger. These fish can be extremely active and aggressive – making them a thrill to catch.
We offer two standard trips styles. One that is a lodge based program that can be custom fit to multiple fishing styles, and another trip that is camp based and gearedmore towards fly fishing, accessing the best wading sections, and spey casting. Both trips can be altered to guests of all fishing abilities.
